Busy Week

Can it possibly be only Tuesday? This week seems rushing by. I think I'll have to stay up all night tonight just to get things done by Thanksgiving.

So, what am I doing online then? Good question. I've found it helps me relax a lot when I write out my thoughts. I don't necessarily have to write about the things that are weighing heavily on me - simply writing something helps. It's as if I can feel the tension slip out through my fingertips as I sit here. So, I indulge myself for a few moments :)

I didn't get to stargaze on Saturday night - it was just too cloudy. We did get out and go to the book store for awhile. We have a BooksAMillion here that has a nice little coffee shop area. Somehow it has become a hot spot for those who like to discuss current events and/or books. No matter when you pop in there, there's almost always someone sitting around ready for a rigorous discussion. Often it's people I've met before but not always. Saturday night it was a whole new (to me) crew. For some reason the discussion had turned to Nancy Grace.

If you watch TV at all, odds are you're familiar with the Headline News Channel's controversial host. Personally, I want to throw something at the TV every time I hear her voice not just because it grates on me but because I think she's irresponsible in the way she discusses cases. She's on a NEWS network yet she her presentations are (IMO) totally biased. Sure, people should know her work is slanted - that she's offering her own opinion - but I'm not convinced that there aren't a number of people out there who take her opinions as gospel. Some of those we chatted with agreed while others cited the First Amendment as a blanket that covers anything anyone wants to say. Now, I'm a fan of the Constitution as much as the next person, but I think that someone on a NEWS channel should be very careful about how they deliver information. (It goes back to that old Spidey adage - "with great power comes great responsibility".) At any rate, it was quite fun to talk about her and tell someone besides Bill just how much she grates on me. (I see in the news today where she's being sued for wrongful death. It will be interesting to see the media coverage about HER trial.)

While I was at the book store, I picked up Night Kill by my favorite author, F Paul Wilson. Currently I'm reading The Haunted Air, the sixth in Wilson's Repairman Jack series. It's difficult to describe Wilson's style of writing. The principle character in many of his books, Repairman Jack, is a bit of an urban vigilante, but he's the sort many would like to have around. He "fixes" things when the legal system fails to help good folks out. Even though he operates outside the law, he has a code of ethics that runs deep. Wilson's work often also contains a bit of the supernatural leaving Jack not only to fight the standard bad guy but also some interesting supernatural forces. It sounds cheesy I know but it doesn't feel cheesy when you're reading. Perhaps Wilson has a gift for writing something that is just believable enough to help the reader to suspend disbelief just for the time of the reading? I can't explain it - I just know I enjoy them.

Hmm - so much more but I think I'll stop there. I have tons of email to get to and a Terrific Tush Tuesday post to make on my other blog :)

I'll be away from Thursday morning til sometime Sunday so Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who will be celebrating.

With no TV comes great freedom from nonsense :)

Have a fine and happy Thanksgiving.

Based on that, you should pick up a copy of firefly and watch it. Don't watch Serenity until you have watched the entire series in order. Let me know when you know what it means to be a browncoat. *wink*
